Default Why can't someone join my guild?

First off, my guild is just me and a few friends from various online games (EQ and Xbox) plus some real life friends. A friend of mine bought the game last weekend and created 4 characters. Well, I can send him a guild invite, but he is unable to accept OR deny the invite! What would cause this to happen? Has anyone else encountered a bug like this?

He doesn't already belong to a guild does he. You can only belong to 1 guild per account.

Hi, just surfing the forum and this caught my eye.

If you can have four characters to an account, can't they all belong to different guilds? One guild per account seems pretty restrictive if for example each of my characters has a diametrically opposed philosophy to the others.

They don't allow it to prevent people from joining another guild to find out information about their build. In other words "Spies"

It's been my experience that most people tend to put all (or most) of thier characters (alts) into a single guild anywho, I think the devs just wanted to make it easier for that to happen and so made it account based.

Oh? Perhaps I have the wrong idea about the ???guild??? system then.

I don???t actually have the game yet and I am hoping to spend the two weeks while it???s on order, reading up about it so I know a little before getting my feet wet.

I was assuming that these guilds are player run? Is that not the case? Or is it more like say ???Dark Age of Camelot??? where you choose up front which nation you???d like to belong to. Only one nation is allowed per server to avoid the spies that Auntie mentions.

Are the ???Guilds??? in GW the same thing?

If that???s so then I assume they are a general ruling that you begin with and that within that ruling there are more specific player guilds that you are free to join as well.

Please forgive if this seems a silly question, but I just haven???t seen this info in the bits I???ve managed to read so far and Daywalka, please forgive the mini thread hijack, it???s all connected isn???t it

To the OP: Sounds like either a bug or he doesn't know how to accept.(Pressing G, accepting invite) :P

To Badger: All guilds are player run. You can create your own guild or join one created by another player once you're invited. They just avoid multiple guilds on one account because, as was mentioned, possible spies/loyalty issues and most dedicated players tend to stick with one guild anyway. It's also kind of nice because each time you make a new character they're automatically in the guild and you don't have to make a special effort to get them invited or, if you're the guild leader, do a ton of inviting.

Hi Zeppelin

Right I get it. From my uneducated view point at this stage, that seems like more of a game con than a game pro. It seems to me that my first character might well be "Dudley Doright" and feel quite at home in the "DTHOLATR Clan Guild." (Dedicated To Helping Old Ladies Across The Road.) But my second character "Black Eyed Pete" the old lady assassin seems less likely to be comfortable with their central theme.

But I'll accept that actual hands on experience of the game might well open my eyes to the truth of it.

Can I explore this a little further then? (Again with apologies to Daywalka) My reading to date suggests that the actual "massively multiplayer" aspect of the game is pretty much limited to being a giant meeting hall where people can get together, reminisce about the old days and tool up prior to setting off on a quest.

Once the missions proper begin, each one is an isolated bubble, unique to and only available to your specific party. So where does the danger from spying come in? (Beyond not wanting to be caught all wearing the same frock obviously )

You're right. If you like to "go both ways" :P, then it would not be a very convenient option. As for me, I like it just for the ease of all my characters automatically being in the guild, and not having to invite multiple characters of one person's. The only option if you're into playing with different demeanors/intentions would be to create your own guild and do whatever you want, or have multiple accounts, each linked to a different guild.

You're right about the instancing. The whole 'spying' thing has more to do with PvP. If one person is in two top guilds, they could easily give one guild's strategies/party makeup to the other, rig a PvP match by losing intentionally or misleading one team's strategy, and generally screw over one guild in many ways if they could get appointed to an officer. It would bring a whole other element into who you can and cannot trust, who is truly dedicated/loyal to the guild, and who you should and should not invite into your guild. It's more of a true team effort and a loyalty issue this way, you know that everyone in your guild is there for a reason, and not spending their time helping another guild instead. Most people will not get that serious about this game, but no doubt that many of the top guilds would try and abuse it if you could be in multiple guilds so easily. It usually only takes 1 person screwing up to lose a PvP match, and since this game is so big on ladder rankings it could be a big concern.

Thanks for the swift reply Just one more quickie before I quit monopolising Daywlka's thread.

How about different servers?

I'm UK based but I have a friend in the States who should be getting the game at about the same time as me. Will I be able to create characters for use on the Euro server, but also create some for use on the US server?

If so, then returning (Like a Terrier) to my initial question, is that a way to be in more than one guild

LOL..I promise I'll step away from the question now!

Just looking in to see if some uberloremiester has a take on my "server" slant to this question. No takers?

When you create your account you can select what region of the world the 'account' belongs to.
You can change this 5-6 times only during the life of the account.
So you can either play in Europe, US or meet in the international zones (mixed zones just for teaming up with friends in other regions - normally empty! lol)

Guilds, Regions, Player storage, Skills Unlocked and Runes Unlocked are all 'Account' based.

Hope that clears things up!

In a game like this spying should be an integrated part of the game. Because playing pvp or guild v guild is so much about finding out how strong the others are, what tactics they use and so on. Limiting guilds to 1 per account wont stop spying. Or do you think that guilds who win many battles like e.g. Gods of Korea dont have spy accounts? That would be naive...
